Developed in response to growing market demand, the SMI Equal Weight Index assigns the same weight to every SMI constituent, reducing concentration in the largest stocks and creating a more balanced representation of the Swiss blue-chip market. The index is rebalanced quarterly to maintain equal constituent weights. The SMI Equal Weight Index is part of the SIX Global Equal Weight Index family which consists of the SIX Euro 50 Equal Weight, SIX Europe 600 Equal Weight, the SIX US 500 Equal Weight and the SIX World AC Equal Indices.

The index fund managed by Zürcher Kantonalbank is the first fund to use the SMI Equal Weight Index - launched by SIX on April 1, 2026 - as its benchmark. This represents a significant milestone for the index, showcasing how collaboration across the investment value chain can turn a new benchmark from concept into an investable, rules-based Swiss equity solution for institutional and retail investors.

“As one of the leading Swiss provider of innovative investment solutions, we are pleased to expand our broad range of passive products with the Index Equity Fund SMI Equal Weight. This product combines the proven stability and defensive qualities of leading Swiss blue chips with a modern, equally weighted structure that allows investors to gain broader and more balanced exposure,” said Fabio Pellizzari, Head of Index Solutions in Asset Management at Zürcher Kantonalbank.

Dr. Christian Bahr, Head Index Services & ESG at SIX, commented: "We are pleased to see Zürcher Kantonalbank launch the new index equity fund based on the SMI Equal Weight Index. This product illustrates how innovation in benchmark design can translate into practical investment solutions. The launch reflects close cooperation between Zürcher Kantonalbank and SIX and underlines the strength of the Swiss investment ecosystem."

As investor demand continues to evolve, SIX remains committed to providing transparent, rules-based benchmarks that support a wide range of investment strategies and product structures.
