The new UBS SMI Equal Weight ETF, which was listed last week on SIX Swiss Exchange, provides investors with transparent and efficient access to the Swiss equity market through an equal-weighted approach to the constituents of the Swiss Market Index (SMI). By allocating the same weight to each constituent at every rebalancing, the index reduces concentration risk and offers broader exposure across Switzerland's leading listed companies.

The launch further expands the range of investment products linked to SIX Indices and reflects growing investor interest in alternative weighting methodologies that complement traditional market capitalization-weighted benchmarks.

The launch also underlines an opportunity for ETF issuers seeking balanced, investable index underlyings for Swiss equity strategies. The ETF market at SIX Swiss Exchange is growing with 168 new ETFs listed in the first half of 2026, 2’244 ETF products and 39 issuers tradable at mid-year, as well as more than 8’200 ETFs available through ETF Quote on Demand (QOD), the Request for Quote (RFQ) service of SIX Swiss Exchange. This momentum supports differentiated index concepts such as the SMI Equal Weighted Index, which can help issuers develop products that complement traditional market capitalization-weighted exposures. For self-guided investors, this translates into a broader range of choices, transparent access and a simple way to invest in Switzerland’s leading companies through a regulated marketplace.

Raimund Müller, Head ETF & Index Fund Sales Switzerland & Liechtenstein, UBS Asset Management, said: “We are delighted to launch this ETF based on the SMI Equal Weighted Index. The strategy offers investors a differentiated approach to Swiss equity exposure by reducing single stock and sector concentration and providing a more balanced representation of the market.”

Dr. Christian Bahr, Head Index Services & ESG, Financial Information, SIX, commented: "We are delighted that UBS has selected the SMI Equal Weighted Index as the basis for this new ETF. The launch reflects continued interest in alternative approaches to Swiss equity investing and further expands the range of investable products linked to SIX Indices."

The ETF is listed and tradable on SIX Swiss Exchange, providing investors with intraday liquidity and easy access through standard brokerage accounts.

The SMI Equal Weighted Index

The SMI Equal Weighted Index applies an equal-weighting methodology to the constituents of the Swiss Market Index, giving each company the same weight at rebalancing. The index is designed to provide a systematic alternative to market capitalization weighting while maintaining exposure to Switzerland's leading equities.
