While the SMI had reached the monthly high of 11,069 points on 12 October, it then dropped by 6.4% to reach the annual low of 10,251 points by 23 October. Since then, the Swiss Market Index has recovered slightly, but with 10,391.2 points at the end of the month it recorded a minus of 5.2%. 

The negative index development was accompanied by increased trading activities on SIX Swiss Exchange, leading to significantly more turnover and transactions compared to the previous month. In October, CHF 85.2 bn were traded  with over 4 million trades.
