In May 2025, the industry conference TradeTech Europe marked its 25th anniversary. As a long-standing sponsor and participant, SIX – with representatives of SIX Swiss Exchange, BME Exchange and ULTUMUS – was once again present with a booth and notable speakers, such as Björn Sibbern, CEO SIX, and Simon McQuoid-Mason, Head Equity Product & Quant Research, Exchanges.
A Thrilling Prospect
In an interview filmed at the event in Paris, Gregor Braun, Co-Head Cash Markets, Exchanges, spoke about the thrilling prospect of Aquis potentially joining SIX: “While both parties come from different backgrounds, both are known for pragmatic and value-add innovation.” He also mentions the current design study to bring the Swiss and Spanish markets onto a common trading platform using technology from Aquis.
The interview also touches upon current initiatives at SIX Swiss Exchange and BME Exchange, including retail, auction and dark trading, notably with Auction Volume Discovery (AVD) as well as SpainAtMid, the recently launched non-displayed liquidity pool replicating the successful setup of SwissAtMid.

Strengthening SIX as a Leading Pan-European Financial Market Infrastructure Provider
The intended acquisition of Aquis (announced on 11 November 2024) will be an important milestone for SIX to raise its commercial ambition in a highly competitive landscape. Pending regulatory approval, the combined resources and capabilities of SIX and Aquis will create a pan-European exchange spanning both traditional primary exchange and MTF businesses. This will strengthen the ability of SIX to serve its clients in Switzerland, Spain, and across Europe.
Gregor Braun is Co-Head of Cash Markets at SIX and has been with the company for nearly 20 years, holding leadership roles across sales, product, and business development. Together with his team, he drives the commercial strategy for both SIX Swiss Exchange and the Spanish BME Exchange, focusing on equities, ETFs, structured products, and related market infrastructure such as CONNEXOR. Gregor is deeply committed to client engagement, working closely with market participants to build lasting relationships and deliver solutions that respond to their evolving needs. He is also a member of the Management Committee of the Exchanges business unit at SIX.
Inspired by the success of SwissAtMid in Switzerland, BME has created SpainAtMid. The non-displayed order book allows executing trades at the mid-point of the spread in Spanish stocks listed on BME. This functionality is available exclusively for stocks in continuous market, where BME is the main market in terms of liquidity, and allows transactions to be executed confidentially and efficiently during the open market phase.
