SIX covers all the regulated Financial Market Infrastructure (FMI) business areas: We identify, monitor and influence regulatory, policy and market initiatives across the complete FMI landscape as cross industry topics at national and international levels.

We engage with a wide range of representatives active in our areas of business to share our views and to encourage a dialogue focused on improving FMI’s ability to provide robust products and services which benefit the clients and markets in which we operate. These include domestic regulators in both of our main business locations which encompass the Swiss Financial Market Authority (FINMA) and the Swiss National Bank (SNB) as well as the Spanish Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and Bank of Spain (BdE)  who provide our core authorizations. Through to international bodies (such as our relevant trade associations) and further national competent authorities and legislators in the jurisdictions in which we are authorized and operate.

Public Policy

SIX actively engages in the evolution of policy specifically in Switzerland, Spain, and the EU, but also in other relevant jurisdictions where SIX has regulatory authorizations. We advocate for continued development to ensure the effective functioning of the financial markets and of our FMI businesses. In these jurisdictions, SIX is in direct contact with government officials, legislators and policymakers, competent authorities, and other relevant stakeholders and associations, not least because of the important supervisory regulations to which SIX is subject.

In addition, SIX is active on developments at the level of international standard setters such as IOSCO, BCBS and FSB and closely follows and engages with these bodies, contributing to the work undertaken. We endorse many of the policy positions they promote to enhance the efficiency of FMI globally.

Evolution of domestic and international regulations are a very important part of our policy activities as our authorisations are subject to such measures. Our FMI business areas seek to ensure these are effective and we, as operators, fully comply with the obligations imposed. These interactions take place directly or via relevant industry associations or groups.
