On 1 July 2015, the Federal Council elected him Vice-Chairman of the Governing Board, whereupon he took over as Head of Department II (Financial Stability, Cash, Finance and Risks) in Bern. Before joining the SNB, Fritz Zurbrügg held various positions in the Federal Finance Administration, including Senior Advisor and Executive Director in the Swiss Office at the IMF in Washington, DC. (1998-2006). The Federal Council appointed him Director of the Federal Finance Administration in 2010.
