eBill is becoming more and more popular and widely used by all age groups. According to analyses by SIX, the largest user group is between 30 and 39 years old. The strongest growth of 20% over the course of 2025 was recorded among people over 80. In total, over 59% of the 20- to 64-year-olds have activated eBill. Overall, the four million users correspond to around half of Switzerland’s adult population.

With eBill, invoices arrive directly in e-banking and can be checked and paid with just a few clicks. The device does not matter: it works on both mobile phones and laptops. The process is simple, secure and saves time and effort for both consumers and businesses. 110 financial institutions already offer eBill in Switzerland, and more and more invoice issuers, including an increasing number of small and medium-sized companies, are turning to digital invoicing.

A Secure Solution

According to a representative survey conducted by the gfs.bern research institute in the spring of 2026, with more than 1,000 respondents from Switzerland, the security aspect of payment transactions is becoming increasingly important for end customers. In this regard, eBill offers clear advantages over both e-mail and paper invoices. Senders are verified in advance in eBill, and invoices are delivered and approved in a secure environment – online banking. In addition, they are processed without media disruptions. There is no need to scan invoices from a second device or type in the data manually. This reduces the likelihood of errors and enables the automation of recurring payments. Compared to paper invoices, it also eliminates the need for printing, mailing, and physical archiving.

Another eBill function is “eBill Donations”, which allows non-profit organizations to send donation requests directly via eBill. In addition, “eBill E-Commerce” enables online merchants to send invoices directly to their customers’ e-banking.

Since 2025: eBill Direct Debit Solution

SIX introduced eBill Direct Debit in summer 2025 as a successor solution to the existing direct debit procedures LSV+ and BDD, which will be discontinued on September 30, 2028. eBill Direct Debit builds on the well-established and proven eBill invoicing platform. As a comprehensive solution, it covers a wide range of use cases and can also process large amounts. The direct debit solution is supported by a high, continuously growing number of the 110 banks that already participate in eBill. eBill Direct Debit provides invoice issuers with a sustainable migration path and, thanks to efficiency gains, can be operated more cost-effectively overall than conventional LSV technology.

By mid-2027, SIX will introduce additional new eBill Direct Debit functions that are in high demand in the market. For example, Business Direct Debit will provide a direct debit solution for businesses, including the processing of large amounts. Consumers who do not use online banking will also be given access to eBill Direct Debit. In addition, invoice issuers will be offered support and a SIX-assisted migration from LSV+/BDD to eBill Direct Debit.
