As one of the first regulated exchanges worldwide, SIX Swiss Exchange formulated a clear framework for trading ETPs and structured products based on cryptocurrencies back in 2018. This did not stay unnoticed. For its pioneering role in this area, the Swiss stock exchange receives the award as "Best European Exchange for Listing cryptocurrency ETPs" at the ETF Express European Awards 2022.

Rules and standards provide security and enable scaling, and SIX creating a clear framework regarding crypto underlyings early on allowed SIX Swiss Exchange to meet the needs of issuers and investors.

The Crypto Segment - a Game Changer

Danielle Reischuk, Senior ETFs & ETPs Sales Manager at SIX Swiss Exchange, is delighted with the award: "It’s a confirmation of the trust and reputation of our market. The award reflects the attractiveness of having a Swiss regulatory framework around these products." She also underlines the high relevance of cryptocurrency-based products: "This product segment is a game changer, as we are among the first regulated exchanges in the world to offer such a broad product range of currently more than 200 products on 18 different cryptocurrencies; it demonstrates our agility and flexibility as well as our customer focus to respond quickly and in a regulated manner to market needs."

Institutional Interest Is Growing

The crypto segment on the Swiss stock exchange has seen strong growth since its launch in 2018. In the first year of trading, a total volume of approximately CHF 500 million was recorded. In 2021, it already amounted to CHF 8.6 billion. This represents a growth of 673% compared to 2020. The increased demand is also attributable to the fact that the interest of institutional investors in crypto-based assets is growing strongly. The fact that meanwhile 82% of the total volume is traded in US-Dollars confirms this trend.

With the increased demand, the supply on the Swiss stock exchange also continues to grow steadily. Last year, products from six new issuers were listed on SIX Swiss Exchange; this year, two new issuers have already joined - and others are about to enter the market soon.

Recognition for Constant Innovation

The award from ETF Express once again confirms recognition for constant innovation on the Swiss stock exchange.  A few days ago, SIX Swiss Exchange already won the Structured Retail Products Europe 2022 Award as "best exchange for structured products and derivatives". And last year, the Swiss stock exchange also received several awards - including two awards from Financial News and a special award from Xenix as best trading venue for ETFs.
