Sustainable infrastructure, the circular economy, and the exercise of voting rights—or why renewable energy will outlast Trump. By 2025, more electricity will be generated from renewable sources than from oil, gas, and coal. Solar capacity is expanding rapidly and is expected to become the largest source of electricity by the mid-2030s.
To achieve the net-zero goal, however, consumer behavior would need to change in the long term, and the economy would need to be restructured. In the short term, technological progress should become the driving force. Renewable electricity production and reductions in consumption, as well as energy-efficient technology in industry and buildings, are no longer just wishful thinking but developments that turn environmental goals into reality.
Technology is driving global change. Even though the transition to a sustainable society is currently slowing down in the United States, the transformation continues elsewhere—in Europe, Asia, and developing countries.
