Julian Müller, Referee and Strategy Manager: Maintain the Peace When It Counts

What does it take to make the right decisions while under constant pressure? In this video interview you’ll discover how Julian Müller, referee and Strategy Manager at SIX, deals with challenges, remains fair, and balances multiple obligations at the same time.

When a referee makes a decision, there’s no turning back – and usually no applause. It’s just this ability – to remain calm, clear, and fair even under the greatest pressure – that characterizes Julian Müller, not only on the football (soccer) pitch, but also in his everyday professional life at SIX.

Communication in the Office and on the Pitch

For Julian Müller, communication plays a key role whether it’s in his everyday work life, or out on the football pitch. “When I communicate, I always have to decide what I say to whom,” he explains. ”When I’m on the field, it means that I’m talking with 22 different individuals, who all have different interests, backgrounds, and are from different cultures. You have to convey your message very precisely,” says Julian. It’s a skill that he learned at SIX, and has successfully carried over to football.

Calm, Even in Heated Situations

His composure in demanding situations is no coincidence either. “My friends often ask me ‘Why are you always so calm?’ Julian recounts. He’s acquired this calmness over the years as a referee. “Making clear decisions under pressure becomes a strength over time,” he says. It’s precisely this experience that helps him today in the dynamic work environment at SIX.

At the end of the discussion, in a short rapid-fire round, Julian reveals where his preference lies. Is it the referee’s jersey, or a suit and tie?
