New Horizons for Swiss Investors

The securities admitted for trading on SIX Swiss Exchange are primary-listed on major international exchanges. In the Sponsored Foreign Shares segment, all securities are traded in Swiss Francs, while US securities can additionally be traded in US Dollars. This allows Swiss investors to participate in international markets while avoiding unnecessary foreign exchange costs.

As a Swiss-based investor, you can trade leading global blue-chip stocks during Swiss trading hours, even when the home markets are closed. The Market maker ensures continuous liquidity by providing binding buy and sell prices throughout the day — enabling you to react quickly to market movements.

About This Service

Trading participants can submit a request to SER (SIX Exchange Regulation) for admission to trading of equity securities of foreign issuers with a primary listing on an exchange recognized by the Regulatory Board. For each security admitted to trading in the Sponsored Foreign Shares segment, a Sponsor acts as market maker to guarantee continuous liquidity.

Sponsors are trading participants of the Swiss Stock Exchange. They are required to meet all reporting and maintenance obligations defined in the Rules and to provide market making services. Interested in becoming a Sponsor or learning more?

Market makers must continuously quote bid and ask prices for minimum volumes within the defined maximum spreads during at least 80% of official trading hours each month. To maintain transparency and quality, SIX Swiss Exchange monitors all trades for compliance.

Sponsors can apply to SER (SIX Exchange Regulation) for the admission to trading of equity securities of foreign issuers with a primary listing on an exchange recognized by the Regulatory Board. The Rules for the Admission of Equity Securities to Trading in the Sponsored Segment can be found online.

The securities in the Sponsored Foreign Shares trading segment are traded on the On Book Matcher (OBM) Partition 2 – "Non-Equities". The trading hours are continuous from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm CET (with a closing auction from 5.20 pm to 5.30 pm CET). All shares can be traded in Swiss francs, and US shares can also be traded in US Dollars. All details are available in the Trading Guides.

The segment enables participants and reporting members to conduct trade and transaction reporting.
